In Cahoots!

Five successful women artists, whose work can be found in private collections across the world, are amalgamating their work for a joint exhibition entitled ‘In Cahoots’. Margit Björklund from Sweden; Elaine Carlton, Lavinia Croft, Sally Huntington, from England and Ursula Williams from Peru are accomplished artists who live and work in Andalucia and together their work will make a phenomenal show!

Their joint exhibition will be at Jinete, Carretera La Cala Golf Km 4.5, Mijas Costa from  5th September until 7th November , with new pictures added on 3rd October.

The Artists

Margit Björklund has chosen to dedicate an ever increasing part of her life to painting and studying art since moving to the Costa del Sol. For her, art is a way of communicating creatively and a way to express her individuality. She has found her medium in oil paint as she says it suits her temperament. In her paintings she tries to translate feelings into colour and form with a twist of humour.

Elaine Carlton is a textile artist who has always loved creating with fabrics and threads, and taught Art through the medium of Textiles for over thirty years. Her pictures are usually composed of a combination of mediums, but always involve machine and hand embroidery. The Andalucian heat and the sun influence the colours, textures and the content. Her Piscean nature means that a great deal of her work involves the sea, beaches and the associated flora and fauna.

After a rather nomadic childhood, moving around Britain and travelling extensively for 10 years through the Far East and Australia, Lavinia Croft discovered the fundamental changes of light and colour in the landscapes where she lived. She bases her works on images that, through subtle layers, capture the essence and feeling of her subjects and the intense emotions of people, objects and places, in a very individual style.

Self taught Peruvian artist Ursula Williams works in coloured pencil and gouache. She favours portraits in coloured pencil and graphite, but also paints other subjects mostly in Gouache and Tempera. In 2009 she won the ‘Best Newcomer Award’ at the 7th Annual World of Coloured Pencil Exhibition and she has also won a ‘Highly Commended’ award for a picture at the 8th Annual Open International Exhibition both organised by the UK Coloured Pencil Society

Sally Huntington has been painting professionally since moving to Spain in 2003. Her inspiration comes from the passion and colour of traditional Andalucian culture. She works in acrylic paint on large canvasses using a combination of brushes, palette knives and sometimes just her hands! Through amalgamating spontaneous brush strokes, highly textured areas and fine detail she achieves bold emotional expression portrayed through the use of bright contrasting colours, resulting in very original paintings.
